What it is

The Albatross is a seafood pub from Wild Group, whose founders also own Goodman and Beast, in the 1930s former Commonwealth Bank of Australia building on Old Jewry, which later became Brown's. It has about 200 covers over two floors, with a standing bar, booths, sports screens and live tanks holding Norwegian king crab and lobster, plus a 14-seat private dining room. Head chef Chris Piorkowski, formerly of Goodman, runs a menu of prawn toast (£5), crab toast (£8), a pint of prawns (£12), langoustines (£16), a lobster roll (£19) and monkfish with beurre blanc and potatoes (£29), with whole roasted lobster or king crab from the tank, and rum baba or sticky toffee pudding to finish. It is open Monday to Friday.
