What it is

Island is the surf-and-turf restaurant from chefs Tom Brown and Brad Carter, run with Marc Francis-Baum of Barworks. In September it moved into the first-floor dining room of the George & Dragon, a Grade II-listed 1889 pub on St John Street that was formerly The Peasant, with a St George mosaic floor downstairs. Upstairs is a 60-cover room of wooden floors, white tablecloths and candles. The menu pairs British land and sea over fire: oysters with jungle mignonette (£6 each), a lamb belly and clam skewer (£16), steak tartare with prawn crackers (£16 or £28), piri-piri chicken with crab sauce (£22 or £34), a steak and lobster cottage pie (£35) and the Island mixed grill of prawns, scallops, lamb chops, sausages, steak and spiced wings at £45 a head, with key lime pie to finish. The pub downstairs books separately.
