What it is

Romy Gill at The Pem is the relaunch of the restaurant inside Conrad London St. James, now led by chef Romy Gill. It reopened on 17 September with a menu built on the regional cooking of Punjab, Bengal, Kerala, Rajasthan and Kashmir, using British produce. The room is Gothic and moody, all deep reds and low light. The sharing menu runs from samosa chaat (£10), sukha crab (£14) and tandoori king prawns (£16) to sukoon paneer (£20), butter chicken (£26), hake moilee (£29) and gucchi nihari, lamb with Kashmiri morels (£32), finishing with milk and cardamom cake with pistachio-rose brittle. There is also a tasting menu, which Time Out put at £90 a head, and an early-evening theatre menu.
