What it is

Kid is a Soho mangal from chef Sertaç Dirik and restaurateur David Carter, whose restaurants include Manteca and Smokestak. The dark, brick-walled room is built around a double-sided charcoal grill, with a few counter seats facing the chefs and a second dining room looking onto Frith Street; the entrance is a heavy concrete door on Bateman Street. The menu draws on central Anatolia: grilled Wildfarmed pide (£4), smoked aubergine with garlic yoğurt and crispy grains (£6), taramasalata with onion crisp and capers (£7), içli köfte with aged beef (£13), grilled onion salata with lamb belly and sweetbreads (£14), Galata mackerel (£24) and the namesake kid, slow-cooked in a clay pot with fig leaf and freekeh for two. Dessert is mountain tea rice pudding with orange blossom, or mint mastic ice cream. It opens for lunch and dinner Monday to Saturday.
